Former Northsound 1 DJ Jeff Diack will run for the SNP against Labour's former Finance Convener Willie Young in the Midstocket and Rosemount by-election.
Freddie John, the former councillor and oil and gas finance boss, will contest the council ward for the Conservatives.
It comes after long-serving and much-loved SNP councillor Bill Cormie passed away in August, triggering the by-election.
Since leaving the radio breakfast show, Diack has been working as a celebrant, while Young is lost his last seat as a councillor in Bridge of Don in 2017.
Meanwhile, John's election by-election campaign centres around the impact of the council's bus gates and low emission zone on the trade of Rosemount shops.
