Tributes have been paid to well-known and much-loved Aberdeen councillor Bill Cormie following his death at the age of 71.

Mr Cormie, who grew up in Garioch, went on to become Aberdeen's Depute Provost and was a serving Baillie and Burgess of Aberdeen, The P&J reports.

He passionately represented his community in Midstocket and Rosemount, firstly as a community councillor before being elected in 2007.

Speaking to The Press and Journal, Mr Cormie's daughter Penny Cormie told of her father's "deep love for helping others", adding: "There will never be anyone like my Dad."

Mr Cormie's SNP colleagues were joined by many across the political spectrum in paying tribute.

Liberal Democtrat council Co-Leader Ian Yuill told the P&J Mr Cormie was a "lovely and thoroughly decent man who cared passionately for the community he lived in and served, and for the city".
