The owners of Castleton Farm near Laurencekirk are to host a fun-filled fundraising day to raise money for the charity which has supported the family after their young relative was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The Mitchell family are hosting the Blossom & Berries Open Day this Sunday, May 4, combining their fundraiser for The Archie Foundation with a celebration of Isabella’s 12th birthday.
Isabella has been supported by the charity since December 2024 and the total raised has already reached £9,000.
The open day will feature a range of activities, including a scavenger hunt, bouncy castles, a straw mountain, face painting, a double-decker bus with kids’ entertainment and a chance to safely explore some impressive farm machinery, all set against the stunning backdrop of the farm’s cherry blossom orchards in full bloom.
Entry is free, with donations welcomed on the day. Every penny raised will go directly to Archie to help continue its work supporting babies, children, and families across the north of Scotland.
Joanne Mitchell, Isabella’s mother, said: “We have been truly overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to us since Isabella’s diagnosis. We wanted to create a special day where people could come together, enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms and support a cause that has given us comfort throughout Isabella’s treatment. Hosting the event on Isabella’s birthday felt like the perfect way to celebrate her strength and spirit while giving back to Archie."
Since Isabella’s diagnosis, the family has experienced first-hand the support that The Archie Foundation provides, from worry monsters - a cuddly friend used to help children express themselves and write down their worries - to small comforts such as colourful hospital rooms and teddy bears that bring joy during difficult times.
As well as raising awareness of the charity, Sunday afternoon will offer visitors the chance to walk through Castleton’s picturesque cherry blossom tunnels and take photos beneath a specially made arch.
Joanne added: "Archie has made a real difference to our hospital experiences - not just for Isabella but for her sister Ruby as well. It’s the little touches that bring huge comfort during tough times, and we’re so grateful for the support we’ve received."
Kelly M. Anderson, head of fundraising at The Archie Foundation, said: "We are incredibly touched by the Mitchell family's generosity and strength. It’s a wonderful example of how families who have faced the toughest challenges still find ways to give back and support others. The money raised at this fantastic event will help us continue providing practical, emotional and financial support to children and families across the north of Scotland."
