The house Nigel Farage announced he had bought in Clacton last year was in fact purchased by his partner - avoiding the need to pay £44,000 in stamp duty.

Despite calling for the resignation of Angela Raynor over her own stamp duty blunder, the Mirror reports Farage has found his own way of paying less tax on property.

The Reform UK leader last year emphasised his commitment to his constituency by announcing he had bought a house in Clacton, Essex.

But it has now emerged the near-£900,000 home was bought by Farage's partner only, leaving her liable for almost £32,000 in stamp duty - a saving of around £44,000 on the £75,000-plus that would have been owed had Farage's name been on the paperwork.

Questioned on his involvement with the property by the Mirror, Farage said: “I haven’t lent money to anybody. I didn’t give her money. She comes from a very successful French family and she can afford it herself. It’s convenient, it works, and she loves it there.”

Responding to the suggestion the arrangement had saved tax, Farage said: “That is a disgusting allegation, unfair and untrue.”
