Final call for entries Great Aberdeen Run

With just 25 days to go, there’s still time to secure a place at Aberdeen’s biggest running event, the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run. Thousands of runners are expected to take part in the 10K and half marathon races on Sunday, August 25, with both routes taking in many of Aberdeen’s well-known landmarks and sites, including:

· Old Aberdeen – with cobbled streets, mature trees and 15th century cathedral, the area is home to the University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495

· Marischal College – Majestic gothic architecture and is the world’s second largest granite building

· Nuart Aberdeen – largescale artworks scattered around the city centre, these modern art installations add colour to Aberdeen’s buildings

· Aberdeen’s harbour and beachfront – see urban dolphins leap at the harbour mouth while surfers catch a wave

The race begins and ends on Union Street, giving entrants the chance to have their own Chariots of Fire moment before collecting their medal. On the day participants will be entertained by musicians and will see family and friends at ‘cheer points’ along the course. Also included in the schedule of events is a Family Run and Engie Business Challenge.

Chris Foy, chief executive of North-east tourism agency VisitAberdeenshire said: “There’s still time to sign up to secure one of the final places at the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run - a must-do for those looking to combine running in a quality event with a north-east of Scotland visit. The Great Aberdeen Run is a brilliant opportunity to take in some of the city’s historic sites and soak in the atmosphere. We are proud to showcase our region to runners, their friends and family and we wish all participants an enjoyable day in the city”
