John Swinney says he has "no plans" to overturn the alcohol ban at football grounds despite a successful trail at Pittodrie last weekend.
Dons fans were able to enjoy pre-game pints at the club’s Scottish Premiership 2-1 victory against Kilmarnock, making it the first time alcohol sales were allowed for regular fans since 1981.
Aberdeen-based Tory MSP Douglas Lumsden said the trial was “successful” and urged the first minister to lift the booze ban permanently, the P&J reports.
Mr Lumsden challenged John Swinney in Holyrood on Thursday, arguing fans at other sports can successfully buy alcohol.
“Sales are allowed at rugby matches and ice hockey games, but is banned for normal punters going to their local football matches," he said.
“Does the first minister agree with me that the time is now right to look at ways at allowing controlled sale of alcohol at football grounds, and end the discrimination against football fans?”
