Manchester United are set to appoint former Aberdeen and Highland League player Kyle Macaulay as their new head of senior scouting after a four-month recruitment process.

The former Aberdeen youth player will work under Christopher Vivell who was appointed the club's director of recruitment in February.

The Elgin-born former Formartine United midfielder previously worked with Vivell during a stint at Chelsea. 

The 39-year-old brings extensive backroom experience to his new role at the club, including spells at Ostersunds, Swansea, Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham alongside manager Graham Potter.

The nephew of former Aberdeen manager Steve Paterson, Macaulay began his playing career at Derby County before returning north to make seven appearances for Aberdeen. 

He later played for Peterhead, Alloa, Elgin City and Formartine United, retiring in 2012.
