Whether you’re an office worker or a music lover - or both - Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums encourages you to take a little bit of time out to ‘Love your lunchtimes’ with the launch of the new annual programme of Lunchbreak Concerts.

Lunchbreak Concerts are unique to Aberdeen and the concert scene in Scotland. Featuring local, national and internationally-recognised artists, the series is open to all musicians irrespective of status, reputation or experience. It plays an important part in providing opportunities for local musicians, music students, emerging performers and school pupils.

Highlights of this year’s programme include:

  • Collaborations with soundfestival, Scotland’s critically acclaimed festival of new music
  • Award winning musicians from the University of Aberdeen including pianist William Gray and Ross Cumming, and Ellon’s own rising operatic star Colin Brockie
  • Concerts showcasing the talents of pupils from Aberdeen schools under the instruction of Aberdeen City Council’s Instrumental Music Service.
  • A special family concert with Sonsie Music on January 6

During the redevelopment of the Cowdray Hall and Aberdeen Art Gallery this much-loved concert series is being presented mainly at Aberdeen Citadel in the Castlegate, and also in other city venues: Aberdeen Maritime Museum, St Andrew’s Cathedral, St Machar’s Cathedral, the Anatomy Rooms and Northfield Church. Concerts take place mainly on Thursdays, at 12.45pm and last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free.

Councillor Marie Boulton, cultural spokesperson for Aberdeen City Council, “In the words of one concert-goer, Lunchbreak Concerts are a ‘fantastic feature of the Aberdeen music scene.’ We are grateful to all the partners who have worked with us to present such a diverse programme. We are indebted to our Artistic Advisor, Dr Roger B Williams MBE, who has worked tirelessly to ensure that the 2017/18 Lunchbreak Concert season encompasses an impressive range of talent and musical genres.”

“We are enthusiastically planning for our return to the Cowdray Hall. Within the pages of our Lunchbreak Concerts brochure you will find details of our Musical Chairs appeal. If you are a regular attender, or simply enjoy the occasional lunchtime musical interlude, we do hope that you will consider supporting the Inspiring Art and Music redevelopment of Aberdeen Art Gallery, Cowdray Hall and Remembrance Hall by donating to this appeal.”
