Transport giant Firstgroup's profits have soared as demand picks up for rail and bus.

The country's largest bus operator's half-year profit to September 30 jumped by more than 50% to £100.6million from £66.1million during the same period last year.

Total revenues at the Aberdeen-headquartered company improved from £427.7million to £504.9million, despite a £19million reduction in CV19-related grants.

Firstbus carried just shy of 1.1million passengers each day as regular services helped offset the impact of train striker.
