For the third consecutive year, Highland Carbon has been named the ‘Best UK Wide Offset Supplier’ by SME News.

Richard Clarke, Managing Director commented on the achievement, “We are delighted to be recognised for our conservation-grade nature restoration projects.”

Clarke is a zoologist who worked previously in international conservation. He has a passion for using science to identify exceptional locations for vast afforestation and wetland restoration projects. He then advises his landowner clients and suppliers on high-grade project design.

Highland Carbon started out working in the wilds of the Scottish Highlands. Thus far, Highland Carbon has worked with more than a dozen large estates located in dramatic landscapes across Scotland: the Highlands, Islands, Borders and Dumfries & Galloway. Coming soon, they expect to be supplying projects in the wilds of Northern Ireland and Northern England.

Two examples from their portfolio include the Aviemore Peatland Restoration Project, located within the Cairngorms National Park. One of the largest projects of its kind undertaken in the UK, it will enhance an important Site of Special Scientific Interest. There will be water quality benefits for a salmon spawning area of the River Spey catchment where ospreys and white-tailed eagles feed. Another notable project is the Galloway Coastal Rainforest. This will be one of the largest, natural afforestation projects ever undertaken in Scotland. The project will enhance a UN Biosphere, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the adjacent Scottish Wildlife Trust nature reserve, the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Galloway Forest Park and will enhance water quality in the Solway Marine Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Highland Carbon’s business clients fall into two categories. They are either reducing their carbon footprints, or they are start-up businesses with green credentials. Local clients include IOS-UK, Peterson, 1st Integrated, Exporta and QHSE Aberdeen. Highland Carbon also supplies multinationals, including several of the largest buyers in the UK market.

In addition to supplying UK climate forests and wetlands to company clients, Highland Carbon, also sources quality international projects from more than seventy countries, for example: tropical rainforest conservation in Brazil, hydro-electric projects in Turkey, solar parks in India and many more. A cocktail approach can enable companies to achieve various claims such as Net Zero company, Carbon Neutral production and Nature Positive.
