Lion Oilfield Services (part of the Infinity Oilfield Services group companies) a Namibian-based oilfield services company, has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in local talent, advancing cutting-edge technology, delivering outstanding customer service and reinvesting in communities, positioning itself as a benchmark for responsible growth within Namibia’s emerging oil and gas industry.
As Namibia moves closer to commercialisation of its offshore resources, the role of local companies in building skills, capacity and long-term value has become increasingly critical. Lion Oilfield Services is responding by prioritising Namibian workforce development, ensuring that local talent is not only included but placed at the centre of industry growth having recently trained two local technicians on valve maintenance and BOSIET, both accredited schemes.
Speaking on the importance of skills development and local participation, Maggy Shino, Petroleum Commissioner at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, has consistently emphasised the need for meaningful local investment in people:
“For Namibia to fully benefit from its oil and gas discoveries, we must build local capacity and ensure that Namibians are equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience required to participate meaningfully across the value chain,” Shino has said. “Investment in local talent is essential for sustainable industry development.”
Lion Oilfield Services views investment in Namibian people not as a compliance requirement, but as a strategic business imperative. Through targeted training, skills transfer and participation in industry development initiatives, the company is actively contributing to a workforce that can meet international standards while remaining rooted in local expertise.
“Building a globally competitive oil and gas services sector starts with empowering Namibians,” said Andrew Mackay CEO and Founder of Lion Oilfield Services and Infinity. “Our focus is on developing skilled professionals who understand both world-class operational requirements and the local context in which we operate. We are establishing a valve and flange tightening training centre in Walvis Bay and have trained up our two first technicians, Vernon and Karl.”
In parallel with skills development, Lion continues to invest in advanced technology, engineering solutions and operational excellence. The company delivers specialised oilfield services
that support offshore and upstream activities, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and performance.
By combining innovation with customer-centric service delivery, Lion aims to support operators and partners with solutions that meet the highest global standards while contributing to Namibia’s long-term industrial capability.
