An inspiring and original new piece of gig theatre will come to the Lemon Tree this September as part of an exciting new season at the Aberdeen venue.

From Dundee Rep Theatre and Solar Bear in collaboration with Aberdeen Performing Arts and Traverse Theatre, The Singer is written by Cora Bisset with Jamie Rea with songs from multi award-winning KT Tunstall. Premiering at the Traverse Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival, The Singer will be at the Lemon Tree from Wednesday, September 9 to Saturday, September 12.

The story centres around Joe, a deaf artist who “sings” with his hands, and Andy, a washed-up musician hungry for a comeback. As their unlikely partnership ignites something extraordinary, ambition, betrayal and belonging collide in this powerful story of music, identity and the fight to be heard.

Aberdeen Performing Arts Chief Executive, Sharon Burgess, said: “The Singer is at the cutting edge of great, relevant, thought-provoking Scottish theatre and we are so proud to play a part in bringing this unique and brilliant production to audiences across the country in 2026.

“Seeing it at the Lemon Tree, which is such a vibrant and exciting hub for new beginnings and emerging talent, will be extra special.”

The Singer sits amongst a packed season of music, comedy, theatre, festivals and family shows coming to the Lemon Tree, including the tenth year of Granite Noir crime writing festival, comedy from the likes of Tom Stade and MC Hammersmith and drama including a re-imagining of George Bernard Shaw’s classic play, Saint Joan.
