When Scottish tennis hero Jamie Murray takes to the court at Wimbledon this week it is worth noting that the former World No1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion is also holding down a second very important job.
Murray is also Tournament Director of Schroders Battle of the Brits - Scotland versus England event taking place at Aberdeen’s P&J Live this December.
Together with event director and Battle of the Brits CEO Mary Greenham, Murray has already successfully staged three Battle of the Brits tournaments, which bring together the UK’s best players.
Murray and Greenham were all set to stage event number four last December 21 and 22 before CV19 forced a last-minute postponement. With the support of its events team and key sponsors such as Schroders, Event Scotland and Brodies, the tournament has been rescheduled for the same dates this December.
Murray’s younger brother Andy will be front and centre, playing singles and doubles alongside Jamie against Team England.
“I’m really passionate about bringing more live events to Scotland and especially areas outside of the Central Belt,” says Murray. “We had such a positive response from everyone in Aberdeen. We were all gutted to have to postpone the event last year but that same buzz is back now about this December. The support of local companies and organisations has been brilliant and we’ve had lots of interest from local businesses wanting to get involved. These events create a lot of opportunities to showcase local brands as well as creating work for local people at the event itself.”
