An afternoon of fun and fundraising was enjoyed by almost 300 ladies at a prestigious hotel in Aberdeen, to raise funds for cancer support.
The CLAN Jukebox Lunch, which was held at the Marcliffe Hotel & Spa on Friday, May 10 2019, raised £16,000 which will be used to offer support to people affected by cancer in the north-east.
The afternoon, which was sponsored by BP, is an annual event, which this year had a musical theme, where guests controlled the entertainment by choosing their favourite songs to be played.
A live auction and a raffle helped to contribute to the overall fundraising total. The money raised will be used by CLAN’s centres across the north-east including Shetland, Orkney, Moray and Aberdeenshire, as well as in Aberdeen.
During the afternoon, CLAN CEO Dr Colette Backwell introduced a client from Peterhead, who had used CLAN’s services in Crimond, before and since the death of her husband. Louise White features on the latest of CLAN’s videos which highlight the services offered by CLAN and the impact the support has on those affected by cancer.
CLAN needs to raise over £10,000 per day to maintain its services across Scotland, as it receives no statutory funds. Services provided by CLAN across its centres and outreach services include counselling, complementary therapies, support for children and families and social and wellbeing activities. The charity supports not only those who have a cancer diagnosis but also their friends and families.
Dr Backwell commented: “The lunch is a highlight of CLAN’s fundraising calendar and it was wonderful to see so many people turn out to support our work. We all had great fun, and we were delighted that Louise came along to share her story with us. Along with the other clients who have been willing to tell their stories for our campaign, she has been extremely generous. We are very grateful to BP who once again generously sponsored the lunch, and to Hydrasun which has supported our very powerful campaign story.
