Keenan Recycling strikes sponsorship deal with local football club

Scotland’s largest organic waste management firm, which still has its roots firmly in the North-east, has netted a new sponsorship deal with a local football team.

Keenan Recycling, which operates a 14-acre site in New Deer in Aberdeenshire, has teamed up with Cuminestown Boys Club to sponsor the full kit and jackets.

The 16 strong team of 11/12-year-olds are progressing to 11-a-side after the summer break and have just returned from taking part in the UK International Cup in Staffordshire, which is a world class football competition.

Headquartered in Aberdeen, Keenan Recycling currently employs more than 90 people across its bases in Edinburgh and Fife, and a large recycling facility in New Deer, Aberdeenshire with another under development at Linwood, near Glasgow. It also recently expanded south into England but is committed to supporting its local communities.

Mel Keenan of Keenan Recycling said: “It is hugely important for us to support the communities that we work in and we are delighted to have been able to team up with the Cuminestown Boys Club.

“The coaches are doing a great job to bring on the team as they progress through the ranks and it was important that the players had new kit to represent the area at such a prestigious football competition in England.”

Martyn Ritchie, Cuminestown Boys Club coach, added: “This is the first time that we have had the strip sponsored and the boys are very proud to be sporting the Cuminestown badge and also to have their own team number.

“We are absolutely delighted that Keenan Recycling has supported us – it isn’t just about getting new kit, it has created a real boost to team morale. The boys are working really hard and focussing on their game and the move to 11-a-side after the summer will attract more spectators, so it is fantastic that they will now look the part.”

With its roots originally in the garden composting business since 2001, Keenan Recycling launched its own commercial food waste collection service in Scotland in 2010. The company now processes more than 150,000 tonnes of organic waste a year, turning it into compost and electricity. The firm currently has an £8.5m turnover, which it aims to grow up to £40m in the next five years.
