A 20-strong team of walkers from KR Group, an Aberdeenshire-based steel and cladding business, donned their trainers and tartan to take on this years’ Kiltwalk.

Team ‘Steely Striders’, made up of KR Group staff and supporters, walked from Duthie Park in Aberdeen to Bellfield Park in Banchory, covering a total of 18 miles.

They were delighted to raise over £2,500 for their nominated charity, Grampian Opportunities, who support local people living with disabilities.

The charity aims to develop the employability skills of people with disabilities, through activities such as life skills groups, community activities, learning programs, and peer support groups. Based in Inverurie, Grampian Opportunities work across Aberdeen City, Shire, and Moray to provide community support in these areas.

KR Group selected the organisation as their ‘charity of the year’ at the start of 2024 and have several fundraising activities and events planned to help fund its programmes.

The steel, cladding and metalwork business, who have been established in the North-East of Scotland for over 20 years, are passionate about supporting their local community, and regularly get involved in charitable initiatives.

The team walked away with sore feet, but had a great day in the sunshine, soaking up the community spirit. KR Group’s Operations Coordinator, Caitlin, spoke about her experience of the event: “This was my first year doing the Kiltwalk and it wasn’t easy, but I would 100% do it again – the feeling at the end definitely made the pain worth it!”.

Nicola Fraser, Business Director at KR Group added: “This year’s Kiltwalk was an amazing experience. The weather was on our side and the event was so well organised – great atmosphere from start to finish. Thank you to our walkers from the KR team and community for taking part and raising much-needed funds for Grampian Opportunities. The money raised will truly benefit the charity and its service users.”
