Last orders for Aberdeen Restaurant Week

With only a couple of days left of Aberdeen Restaurant Week, city centre restaurateurs have encouraged members of the public to experience their unique menus.

More than 35 city centre restaurants have signed up to the first Aberdeen Restaurant Week which started on Thursday, February 1 and ends on Thursday (February 8).

Each restaurant has created a unique menu for the event with a simple pricing structure which also reflects the project’s inaugural year. A two-course lunch is priced at £10 per person and a three-course dinner costs £20.18 per person.

Participating restaurants include, Molly’s Bistro, Howies, Thistle and Moss, The City Bar and Diner, Revolution, Seven and Café Andaluz.

Nicola Johnston, evening and night time economy manager at Aberdeen Inspired, said: “Feedback on the inaugural Restaurant Week has been overwhelmingly positive with some restaurants fully booked for the initiative before it had started.

“There is an eclectic mix of independents and national brands to choose from, all boasting a delicious menu and unique dining atmosphere. We would encourage the public to get involved in this initiative and really take advantage of the fantastic value being offered at some of Aberdeen’s best local eateries.”

Rebecca Findlay, restaurant manager at Moonfish Café, added: “Our menu is a bit of fun, giving everyone a taste of what we create here at Moonfish Cafe. We’ve combined aspects of our lunch and dinner menus using seasonal, local produce in innovative ways. We like to be traditional and at the same time very experimental and that is something that our sweet pecan pie with foie gras achieves.”

Paul Mair, business owner of Café Boheme, said: “Our aim at Café Bohème is to serve well executed, authentic French cuisine in a laid-back environment. For the Restaurant Week menu head chef John Patillo and myself picked dishes that we thought best define our food style here at Bohème. Confit de canard is one of our signature dishes, served with hearty haricot bean cassoulet and morteau sausage.

“Other dishes include mussels in langoustine bisque, braised rabbit terrine and of course crème brûlée. We're excited to be part of Aberdeen's first Restaurant Week and believe it’s a great initiative to showcase what the city's food scene really has to offer, and hopefully introduce new clients to independent businesses like ours.”

Restaurant manager of Molly’s Bistro, Catherine Shaughnessy, said “We only use fresh local produce, with an emphasis on creating dishes that excite the customers’ taste buds. Our chefs are passionate about creating a menu which has our classic favourites and also experimenting and creating new and exciting dishes using seasonal ingredients through our daily specials and catch of the day.”

Aberdeen Inspired is the banner under which the Aberdeen Business Improvement District (BID) operates. It is a business-led initiative within the city centre in which levy payers within the BID zone contribute.

Proceeds are used to fund projects designed to improve the business district. Due to its on-going success, the organisation won 2017 European BID of the Year in July.
