Louis Theroux captivated a sell-out crowd at Aberdeen Music Hall last night as part of the Ultimate Masterclass Festival, hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and TotalEnergies.

The celebrated documentary maker and journalist shared insights from a career spent exploring some of the world’s most controversial and curious subcultures, in a live conversation that combined sharp observation, dry humour and candid storytelling.

Over the course of the evening - which was sponsored by Aspect: The Strategic Communication Experts and ATPI, and supported by Tinto Architecture, BoConcept, PCL Live, The Chester Hotel and Luxe Scot - Theroux reflected on his unique interviewing style, his early days working with Michael Moore, and the global success of series such as Weird Weekends and When Louis Met....

The audience was treated to behind-the-scenes stories from his time filming with Jimmy Savile, neo-Nazis, conspiracy theorists and fringe religious movements, as well as reflections on the personal toll and ethical complexities of immersive journalism.

A packed Music Hall listened intently as Theroux charted his evolution from inquisitive outsider to one of the UK’s most recognisable and respected broadcasters.

The event marked one of the flagship moments in the Ultimate Masterclass Festival, which continues to bring internationally renowned talent to Aberdeen for a live events aimed at inspiring local audiences and bringing footfall to the city centre.

Theroux also touched on his more recent work, including his award-winning documentaries for the BBC and his popular podcast series, which have seen him engage with celebrities and cultural commentators.

The format blended structured conversation with spontaneous interaction, as Theroux responded to audience questions with the trademark curiosity and self-awareness that have defined his career.

Theroux was later spotted enjoying a whisky at The Grill on Union Street, interacting with people who had been at the show.

The Festival continues tonight with An Audience with James Corden, offering another opportunity for audiences to hear first-hand from one of the UK’s most successful entertainers.
