Cancer care charity Maggie’s Aberdeen is celebrating 11 years of support in the North-east with the return of its glamorous fundraising ball this autumn.

Returning to the Chester Hotel on Saturday, September 7, this year’s event will celebrate 11 years since Maggie’s opened the doors of its Aberdeen centre.

Following in the footsteps of last year’s ball, which raised an impressive £116,000, the team at Maggie’s Aberdeen is looking forward with high hopes for another exciting, successful, and colourful event, with the dress code being ‘a touch of orange’.

The gala event will feature Alex Flemming as host for the evening, along with special guests Totico providing the music to help guests dance the night away. Tables for the event are expected to sell out fast and can be purchased by emailing aberdeenfundraising@maggiescentres.org .

In just over a decade, the centre has hosted more than 80,000 visits from local people whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer. As well as practical and emotional support, the charity has helped secure £9 million in financial gains for visitors through its benefits advice service.

Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre Head Vera Schroeter said: “I am incredibly proud of the support we as a team are able to give people with cancer and those who love them, and we are all looking forward to another successful Orange Ball event this autumn to celebrate Maggie’s.

“Since opening our doors in 2013 we have been able to support tens of thousands of people, many of whom get involved with also supporting Maggie’s. We could not do this without the help of our wonderful supporters and volunteers who give up their time to raise funds and volunteer for Maggie’s. It is their effort that enables us to grow and thrive so we can continue to support the community. For this we are incredibly grateful, and we want to also celebrate their commitment and passion.

Richard Stewart, Centre Fundraising Manager added, “The Orange Ball is our flagship celebration event and if this year’s event is even half as much fun as last year’s, guests are in for a treat. With our Platinum Sponsor, Ithaca Energy, on board, we expect tables to sell quickly so anyone interested in hosting a table should get in touch soon. Enquiries should be directed to aberdeenfundraising@maggies.org

The Aberdeen centre was the charity’s 17th in the UK, and since its inception, a further seven have opened across the country. The £3m facility was opened on September 23, 2013, by HM the Queen Sonja of Norway and HRH the Duchess of Rothesay, now the Queen Consort, who were accompanied by golfing great Colin Montgomerie.

The opening came after a three-year campaign called Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal, which was led by the Elizabeth Montgomery Foundation, a charity set up by the former Ryder Cup captain in memory of his mother who died of cancer in 1991.
