Marks & Clerk, the international intellectual property (IP) firm, has been identified as a top ranking firm for trade mark prosecution in Scotland.
The firm, with offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, was given the accolade by World Trade Mark Review 1000, which undertook a lengthy research process to determine Scotland’s top trade mark filers.
World Trade Mark Review (WTR) assesses firms across the globe, providing rankings by country, and Marks & Clerk is proud to feature at the top of the Scottish table.
Commenting on the results of its research, which included interviews with numerous trade mark holders across Scotland, WTR commented: “It has been on a full-on year at Marks & Clerk in Scotland; the UK and international IP powerhouse has handled new trademark filing programmes, seen hot demand for its search, clearance and opinion work, and rolled up its sleeves on more IP due diligence projects than ever.”
Alongside recognising the firm, WTR also highlighted the individual talents of Campbell Newell, a Partner in Marks & Clerk’s Edinburgh office, and Aidan Clarke, a partner covering the Glasgow and Aberdeen offices. Campbell was highly recommended by WTR for his delivering of ‘excellent results’ while it was noted that Aidan ‘gets the best job done on tight timescales’.
Campbell Newell, a partner in Marks & Clerk’s Edinburgh office said: “Scottish produce ranging from whisky and salmon to tartan and tech is recognised globally for its quality. Underpinning this well-earned recognition are trade marks and protecting these is vital. It’s a privilege to support Scottish industry as it looks to protect its intangible assets and enter new markets both domestic and foreign.
“The recognition from the World Trade Mark Review is testament to the hard work and expertise of our teams in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. We look forward to continuing our work with businesses across Scotland to protect their intellectual property and build robust strategies for making the most of it.”
The news comes off the back of recent research by the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys which revealed Marks & Clerk to be the top trade mark filer in both the UK and the EU. This international and domestic expertise, and Marks & Clerk’s long established offices in France and Luxembourg, leaves the firm ideally placed to continue serving Scottish businesses looking to file trade marks in the UK, Europe and further afield following Brexit.
