What is the biggest challenge and opportunity your organisation is facing right now?

Like many organisations, we’re navigating ongoing political and economic uncertainty, which can make planning for the future more challenging.

Here in the North-east, many of our clients are connected - directly or indirectly - to the energy sector, meaning they can be particularly exposed to change. This makes our role even more important, as we support them through these challenges.

At the same time, our local experience and strong network put us in a great position to help clients adapt and move forward. We’re part of a close-knit business community, and by maintaining open communication with clients, colleagues and our wider professional network, we can ensure that no business feels like it has to face these challenges alone.

What is your word of advice for fellow Chamber members?

To borrow a line from the old BT advert: “It’s good to talk.”

With so many ways to communicate today, it’s easy to rely on emails and messages - but nothing quite replaces a real conversation. Whether it’s picking up the phone or meeting face-to-face, meaningful dialogue is often the most effective way to solve problems and offer advice.

As AI continues to reshape how businesses operate, the importance of strong communication and relationship-building will only grow.

What is the best thing about being a Chamber member?

The Morning Bulletin and Chamber events give members a fantastic platform to share success stories, stay connected, and celebrate the strength of the North East business community. It’s a great reminder that we’re part of something to be proud of.
