Job title: Chief Operating Officer

Give us the elevator pitch for your business.

At Robert Gordon’s College, we provide a world-class independent education for children aged 3 to 18 that empowers young people to be the best versions of themselves. Based in the heart of Aberdeen, we offer the broadest curriculum and the largest subject choice in the North-east of Scotland, complemented by extensive co-curricular and sporting opportunities. But our goal isn’t just academic excellence; it’s about fostering the resilience, curiosity, and global mindset necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world.

We don’t just support our pupils, but also the local community through the hire of our sports facilities and performance spaces, and by using our educational expertise to deliver fun-filled holiday camps and supportive revision academies to pupils of any school.

Who are your customers?

Our customers are families who want their children to have access to opportunities that sometimes simply aren't available elsewhere locally. They don’t just want academic outcomes, but also a wide choice of subjects, the ability to pursue varied interests, and the confidence that their child will be known and supported as an individual.

As COO, I particularly enjoy taking prospective families for a personal tour of our Countesswells Sports Field, helping to bring to life the scale of opportunity we offer beyond the classroom, and allowing them to see first-hand the first class sporting facilities which would be available to their children.

Beyond our pupils, our customers also include families from across the region who engage with our holiday camps and revision academies, as well as community organisations who use our RGC Spaces. We see ourselves not just as a school, but as an important partner for families, groups, and clubs across the region.

What is the biggest challenge and opportunity your organisation is facing right now?

The independent education sector is facing unprecedented challenges, and navigating those is undoubtedly a priority. We are adapting as a business to ensure not only that we can continue to meet the expectations of our families, but also that we can improve and offer even more, including investment in our sports facilities and wider estate, to ensure we provide the best possible environment for our pupils.

What is your word of advice for fellow Chamber members?

The future success of all local businesses will be dependent on the talent that we nurture today. Consider what you can do to support young people, and the development of the next local workforce, to ensure the North East continues to thrive.

What is the best thing about being a Chamber member?

The Chamber provides great connections locally and allows us to stay informed, build relationships, and be part of the business community. You never know what doors your next conversation might open.
