Midnight Runway Run 2018 raises more than £38,000 for three charities

The final fundraising total for an epic midnight charity dash has been confirmed, organised by Aberdeen International Airport and CHC Helicopter.

The airport hosted the Runway Run in partnership with CHC Helicopter in July, with three charities to benefit from the total £38,497.30 raised.

More than 300 runners took on the Runway Run challenge, with their fundraising efforts shared equally among Befriend A Child, Sue Ryder and Veterans with Dogs.

Airport firefighter Jim Tole crossed the finishing line in first place, completing the 3.5km race in an impressive time of 11 minutes and 27 seconds.

Derek Provan, AGS Airports Ltd chief executive officer said: “A huge congratulations to everyone who donned their trainers and took part in our Runway Run. The fundraising efforts of all those involved was incredibly impressive and we were delighted to have hosted such a fantastic event which raised so much for the three chosen charities.”

The event was organised by CHC Helicopter Captain Ryan Broadhurst, supported by the airport team and volunteers on the night.

Mark Abbey, CHC regional director, Europe, Middle East and Africa said; "This is an outstanding achievement and I'm very proud that CHC were able support it, not only through sponsorship but with so many of our staff taking part on the night. Congratulations to Ryan for organising the run and for raising much needed funds for the three charities."

Captain Broadhurst added: “I am overwhelmed at the generosity of those taking part and those supporting the event. The amount raised has far exceeded my expectations and I’m already thinking about the Runway Run sequel event in 2019.”
