An Aberdeenshire MP has urged the Scottish Government to deploy the military to help communities cut off by heavy snowfall.
Andrew Bowie, the Conservative MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, said he was “increasingly concerned” by the worsening weather situation, describing it as “critical” for affected areas.
Parts of Aberdeenshire were buried under several inches of snow on Monday and Tuesday following heavy blizzards, with further disruption expected.
In a letter to First Minister John Swinney, Mr Bowie called for all available resources to be mobilised and urged ministers to request military assistance from the UK Government to help clear roads and deliver essential supplies.
Mr Bowie said: “The extreme weather has led to entire communities being cut off with many now worried about food and medical supplies.
“Council staff, farmers, emergency service workers and volunteers are doing incredible work, but I am increasingly concerned as the temperature looks set to remain at or below freezing for the foreseeable future and more snow possible.”
