Aberdeen City Council bosses have admitted they won't yet be able to enforce sweeping new 20mph speed limit across the the city - despite the change being introduced last week.

The implementation of 20mph limits on more than 700 streets across the entire city flew largely under the radar, with an advert of page 27 of the Evening Express the day before seemingly among the only warnings.

Despite the new limit being in place since last week, The Press and Journal reports the local authority will be unable to enforce the rules until signage is installed.

The speed limits are focused around areas of Aberdeen deemed busier and which are within 100m on a school, church, community centre, sporting facility or hospital.

Among the streets affected by the changes, which werre voted through by councillors in June, are Hutcheon Street, Garthdee Road and sections of North Deeside Road.
