The schnapps made from peach, the velvet hammer, the Alabama slammer - a movie quote which sets the scenes for Aberdeen’s newest event, Cocktails & Dreams.
With a nod to the last barman poet played by Tom Cruise in the 1988 movie, Cocktail, a team of Aberdeen businesswomen have joined forces with charity, Charlie House, to launch a fresh fundraising event which is set to be a key date in the city’s 2020 social calendar.
Wendy Atkinson of Mattioli Woods, Sarah Hutcheon of DiveSource Ltd, and Karen Catto and Kirsty Morrison, both of Stewart Milne Group, are the driving force behind the new event.
Only 300 tickets are available for the exclusive afternoon on Friday, June 12, which will see the Marcliffe Hotel transformed into a Jamaican beach bar straight from the movie.
All money raised at Cocktails & Dreams will be donated to local charity, Charlie House, which supports babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions, and their families, in the north-east.
Wendy Atkinson, business development manager at Mattioli Woods, said: “We are all great supporters of the work that Charlie House does in our community and we really felt that the time was right to create a fresh and exclusive event for the city to raise money for this deserving, local charity.
“The event will be themed around the old favourite 80s movie, Cocktail, and we have some great entertainment and surprises planned for the afternoon…and the Marcliffe will be unrecognisable! This will definitely be an event not to be missed next year but with limited tickets, we are urging guests to snap up tables quickly so they are not left shaken and stirred!”
Susan Crighton, director of fundraising at Charlie House said: “This event has brought together a dynamic team of local businesswomen so there is no doubt that this will be a brilliant afternoon of fundraising, fine food and entertainment.
“All profits made from this fantastic new event will enable families to spend time together creating precious happy memories and will support babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions, and their families, in the North-east.”
In the North-east of Scotland alone there are more than 1,600 babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions. Alongside running ongoing activities and services, Charlie House is undertaking an £8million appeal for a specialist support centre to be built on the grounds of Woodend Hospital offering families dedicated support and local respite facilities.
