Aberdeen-based subsea technology firm Krona Subsea has unveiled a major innovation in subsea connection technology with the Maelstrom Pinless Connector.

The product is already attracting attention for its potential to significantly reduce operational risk, simplify installation, and improve performance in harsh offshore environments.

The Maelstrom Connector eliminates the use of physical pins and seals - long considered a common failure point in conventional subsea connections - offering a robust, field-proven solution that is designed for rapid deployment and long-term reliability.

“This is more than a product upgrade – it’s a complete rethink of how subsea connections can work,” said Nigel Money, managing director at Krona Subsea. “We’ve taken a problem the industry has tolerated for too long and engineered it out of the equation.”

The technology is already being used in a number of applications, with Krona Subsea reporting zero connection issues and improved installation efficiency across multiple use cases.

While the connector has clear benefits for oil and gas and autonomous operations, it’s also drawing interest from the renewables sector, where reliability and speed of deployment are increasingly critical.

The showcase comes as Krona continues to expand its operations from its Altens base, with further product developments planned for late 2025 as the company focuses on supporting the energy transition and wider subsea market.

Krona Subsea is inviting industry partners to explore the benefits of the Maelstrom Connector firsthand, with demonstration units and technical briefings now available upon request.
