New hotel and restaurant throw open doors to public

Last night Aberdeen’s newest venue welcomed over 300 guests for a special private party ahead of the official opening today, Friday, August 17. Guests were welcomed by doormen, one kilted and one dressed as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer, signalling the North-American, Scottish fusion which this new haunt enjoys.

They were treated to an evening of musical entertainment, champagne, cocktails, a whisky tasting and samples of the restaurant’s menu as they took up the opportunity to be the first invited inside the property since its completion.

Located in the heart of city centre, Sandman Signature Aberdeen Hotel and Chop Grill & Bar are ready to welcome members of the public to experience a new form of hospitality in a rapidly evolving area of the city.

Mitch Gaglardi, director of Northland Properties said: “Our journey to opening the two outlets began over four years ago when we made the decision to expand into Scotland, choosing Aberdeen as our first Scottish location. We saw the market as a great opportunity to introduce a new product to the city’s hotel and restaurant scene and we are now established at the heart of the emerging cultural quarter of Aberdeen.

“We’re making the most of this long-term investment by building strong partnerships with both businesses and organisations on our doorstep. As well as forging these relationships we’ve created local employment, offering over 200 new career opportunities in the city.”

Taking great pride in their North-American heritage members of the training and management team were flown in from Canada to deliver training, ensuring the venue offers the very best hospitality from day one.

Transforming the previous Robert Gordon University building on St Andrew Street, the vast building is part of Aberdeen’s granite conservation area as well as being one of the largest granite buildings in the world. Thanks to family-run, Canadian hotelier, Northland Properties, it has been given a new lease of life with a multi-million pound investment from the group.

The 218 bed hotel sports a stunning lobby, unlike any other in the city, hotel bar and large conference and wedding facilities which are due to open later this year.

The restaurant, Chop Grill & Bar, offers contemporary dining space, separate bar and whisky room, Freedom An’ Whisky. The food and beverage offering features locally sourced produce and as such, a seasonal slant to its dining choices.
