AberNecessities, which provides basic essential items to local children in the north-east is calling upon local businesses to support its Christmas campaign, ‘Believe in Magic.

The four-year-old charity, which has supported over 12,000 local children since its inception, has invited local organisations to sponsor its heart-warming Christmas campaign, which aims to bring the magic of the festive season into homes that, due to financial difficulties, would otherwise be unable to partake in festive celebrations.

A number of sponsorship options are available to businesses, with all funds going towards providing new gifts and Christmas treats to families in Aberdeen city and shire.

Organisations are also encouraged to set up a Giving Tree in reception areas, with printed baubles provided by AberNecessities to give staff and customers the opportunity to create magical moments for local children in need on Christmas Day.

AberNecessities founder Danielle Flecher-Horn, said: “Our Giving Tree baubles neatly outline the items required for creating special Christmas Eve boxes, catering to children from birth to 18 years. From cosy pyjamas and warm socks to hot chocolate and sweet treats, every contribution plays a significant role in making this festive season truly magical.

“Christmas is an exciting time for most children, but for many living in our community, there is no Christmas – no gifts, no celebration, no festive food. For too many parents, Christmas is a time to dread, with the cost-of-living crisis making it difficult to get through a winter, let alone a big celebration. AberNecessities provides new Christmas presents, and Christmas Eve packages which include special Christmas treats, games and cosy pyjamas to allow families to create magical memories.

“In 2022, the number of applications we received exceeded our budget, but thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals we were able to fulfil every request, eventually sending out 2,704 packages. This year, due to the continuing cost-of-living crisis, we expect a higher number, so we look to businesses in the area to do what they can to help us bring some magic into the homes of local children.”

AberNecessities is also asking for volunteers to help at its Christmas packaging grotto in Dyce, Danielle said: “Christmas is a busy time for us here at AberNecessities so if any business teams would like to gift their time to volunteer with us, that would be greatly appreciated. Volunteer enquiries should go direct to Irene Grassick at irene@abernecessities.co.uk.”
