Aberdeen-based charity, Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF), has received a significant grant from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.
The funding will enable GEF to expand its practical, hands-on support for families across the north-east who are raising a child with a disability or life-limiting condition.
With increasing referrals through partnerships with other local charities, the grant comes at a crucial time. It will help GEF continue delivering personal visits, emotional support, and rapid response service and equipment assistance tailored to each family’s needs.
“We’re pleased to have received this funding, which will help us to continue providing direct, hands-on support to families, often referred to us by other local organisations,” said Myles Edwards, co-founder of GEF.
Myles added: “Applications to the charity have grown steadily as awareness of our services has increased through collaboration with local partners. The funding, awarded in January, will be used to cover both core and project costs, including staff time and operational support.”
The award follows a nomination from a long-standing supporter and Yorkshire Building Society customer based in Aberdeen. Through its Charitable Foundation, YBS empowers staff to champion local causes that align with its mission to improve health, relieve hardship, and support underrepresented communities.
The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation awards grants of up to £2,500 to charities with an annual income of under £100,000. The focus is on organisations working at a local level to address social need and improve wellbeing.
GEF’s vision is to build a brighter future and improve the quality of life for children and their families in Kenya and the north east of Scotland. For more information about the charity and opportunities to be part of future fundraising activities, visit: https://gathimbaedwardsfoundation.org/
