The chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has resigned after a major Budget day error saw a key document published early.
Richard Hughes said he took "full responsibility" for what an internal investigation described as the worst failure in the OBR's 15-year history.
The accidental publication confirmed several Budget measures, including a three year freeze on income tax, before Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivered her statement to the House of Commons last week.
The report into the incident found it caused "heavy damage" to the watchdog's reputation and had been "seriously disruptive" to the chancellor, but added that the leak was inadvertent.
The record added that the OBR leadership bore "ultimate responsibility," the BBC reports.
The error added mounting controversy around this year's Budget, with the Rachel Reeves accused of misleading the public over the state of public finances.
