Over 1,000 pupils from 16 secondary academies across Aberdeenshire have begun their Foundation Apprenticeship journey last week, marking the start of another year of work‑based learning alongside their school studies.
The programme supports young people to gain practical skills and industry insight on placements with local employers one day a week throughout the academic year, helping them take early steps towards positive destination pathways.
Since 2019, Aberdeenshire Council has led the delivery of Foundation Apprenticeship frameworks across the North‑East, working closely with schools, training staff and local employers. In the last academic year, apprentices were supported through placements with more than 650 employers across sectors including Business Skills, Accountancy, Scientific Technologies, Children & Young People, Health & Social Care, Automotive, Food & Drink Technologies and Hospitality.
