A Kirkintilloch telecoms worker is taking on a wheely gruelling 100-mile cycle to support families living in poverty.
Tony Sweeney (42) from Robroyston will take part in the Pedal for Scotland challenge this September in a bid to raise £1000 for the Glasgow Care Foundation, which cares for the city’s most vulnerable residents.
The business development manager has already received a big boost from his colleagues at Exchange Communications, who donated £500 to back his efforts.
Tony said: “I’m a keen cyclist but this will be the first time I’ll be getting on my bike for such an important cause.
“Knowing that every mile covered will be raising vital cash for the families who need it most is really spurring me on in training. There’s less than a month to go until the big day and together with my friend and fellow cyclist Andrew Conway, we’re hopeful we can reach our £1000 fundraising target.
“I’m delighted we’ve been given such a big boost from my colleagues at Exchange Communications. It’s a cause we’re all very passionate about.”
Pedal for Scotland is in its 19th year and riders will set out from Glasgow Green on Sunday, September 9.
