A new roundabout could be constructed at the notorious Toll of Birness after a years-long campaign pleading for crucial safety upgrades.
Transport officials at Nestrans are seeking to tackle traffic issues at the A90 junction known for being one of the worst accident blackspots in the region.
A recent survey showed there have been more fatal crashes on the stretch north of Ellon than on any other A-road in the country.
Nestrans has now compiled a list of options – including creating a roundabout at Toll of Birness and the Cortes junction near Fraserburgh – that could improve safety and cut journey times.

Meanwhile, the Chamber continues to support the Campaign for North East Rail on a new rail link connecting Aberdeen to Fraserburgh via Peterhead which would also be a key factor in reducing fatal accidents on what is one of Scotland’s deadliest roads as well as delivering a North-east economic boom.
