An ambitious plan to create a new secondary school and hub to benefit the entire Northfield community took a step forward on Tuesday 16 September.

Councillors from the Education and Children’s Services Committee heard that options and costings for the creation of a new community campus to service the Northfield area and an outline business case will now go forward to the authority’s budget setting process for 2026/27, along with proposals for a new school serving the Bucksburn / Newhills area as part of the ongoing Schools Estate Plan.

Convener Councillor Martin Greig said: “This is a major step forward in an exciting proposal for the Northfield area which would not only reduce excess school capacity but provide a hub for use by the entire community while also helping us deliver our Family Support Model.

“We are determined to provide the best, most modern and cost effective schools and community facilities we can, and this is reflected not only in our proposals for areas such as Northfield and Bucksburn but across our entire Schools Estate Plan.”

Vice-convener, Councillor Jessica Mennie, said: “I am delighted that we are able to deliver better quality learning environments for pupils along with modern facilities for the community.”

As part of the Schools Estate Plan, councillors also agreed yesterday that a feasibility study should be undertaken to investigate options for the establishment of a new primary school to serve Grandhome.
