The University of Aberdeen has expanded its online Access offering with the launch of a new Access course in Chemistry, completing a full suite of STEM subjects designed to support learners looking to progress into further study or new career pathways.

Qualifications aligned with National 5 to Advanced Higher levels

The addition of Chemistry means learners can now study Biology, Maths, Physics, Physics for Engineering and Chemistry entirely online and at their own pace. These qualifications are equivalent to National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level study and are awarded directly by the University of Aberdeen.

Learners can also choose a Level 4 Maths course, designed to help build confidence and core skills and provide a solid foundation for taking their Maths studies further.

Humanities and social sciences complement STEM provision

Alongside the expanded STEM provision, the University has also added a new course in Law, complementing its established courses in Psychology and English.

Meeting the needs of modern learners

Jenna Stuart, Online Education Team at the University of Aberdeen, said: “We’re committed to widening access to education and supporting people at every stage of life. The expansion of our online Access offering reflects the needs of learners who want flexible routes into higher education or new career opportunities. By offering a full STEM pathway alongside   subjects such as English, Law and Psychology, we’re giving learners more choice than ever before”.

The University’s Access courses are delivered fully online, with no fixed start dates, no in-person exams and flexible online assessments. Learners can begin at any time of year and complete their studies within a 12-month period, allowing them to fit learning around work, family and other commitments.

Widening access to further and higher education

Successful completion of Access qualifications can support entry to undergraduate degrees or teacher training programmes at the University of Aberdeen. They are also widely used by individuals looking to upskill, reskill, or strengthen their CV for new roles or apprenticeships. If learners are applying to study elsewhere, they should contact the respective institution to confirm the acceptability of the course and the grades required.
