A North-east organisation is urging the region’s employers to show their support for young people on World Youth Skills Day 2022. July 15 marks the annual United Nations celebration of the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East makes it easier for employers and education to connect and prepare young people for the world of work. The team plays a key part in the delivery of the Young Person’s Guarantee, a commitment to bring together employers, partners and young people.

Through DYW North East, employers can provide inspirational opportunities for young people to help them understand and develop the skills they need to succeed in the workplace.

“Young people are the future of our region and every organisation – no matter its size or sector – can play a part in informing and inspiring them about the world of work,” says Margo Milne, Director, DYW North East.

“Many employers are keen to support and employ young people but are unsure where to start. That’s where we come in. DYW North East works closely with local schools and employers to develop activities that are right for them and – crucially – right for our young people.

“Engaging with young people at an early stage is vital in helping them to understand, and prepare for, the wealth of exciting opportunities that exist in our region as it embraces the challenges of climate change and rapid technological advances.”

DYW North East is hosting a lunch and learn event on Wednesday, 27 July for employers who wish to find out more. The group can also be contacted by emailing info@dyw.org.uk.

DYW North East is one of 21 regional groups across Scotland, dedicated to connecting employers and young people. Further information is available at www.dyw.org.uk.
