Research participants sought for study

Researchers at the University of Aberdeen are seeking office workers to take part in a trial investigating a new method of increasing physical activity.

The Health Economics Research Unit (HERU) is looking for healthy adults aged 30-65 who are minimally active but seeking to increase their activity. Volunteers will be asked to follow a walking plan designed to increase their day to day activity levels and complete some online tasks at various points during the 10-week study.

PhD student Uma Thomas said: “Most people are aware of the current crisis levels of inactivity and the impact that that is having on the nation’s health and an already struggling National Health Service. It is important to have a healthy workforce and the impact that that has on increasing productivity. If our method proves effective it has the potential to be inexpensive to administer and therefore could prove a useful tool in the campaign to increase physical activity.”

Uma is particularly interested in recruiting office workers for the study, partly because their occupations are sedentary.
