A leading retail consultant has told decision-makers how his blueprint for Aberdeen city centre could restore trade to "almost pre-Covid levels".

Jonathan De Mello unveiled his long-awaited action plan at an Aberdeen Inspired breakfast attended by around 150 traders, councillors and business leaders at the Douglas Hotel.

Commissioned by the business improvement district, Mr De Mello was tasked with identifying gaps in the Granite City's retail offering and setting out a strategy to revive footfall and fill empty units.

The retail expert, who has advised councils and major brands across the UK, outlined six key goals which he believes could return the city centre to its glory days.

A central theme of the report is Aberdeen’s wide catchment area, which he said stretches as far north as Inverness due to a lack of “meaningful competition”.

The plan also identifies Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose as towns with potential to drive more shoppers to Aberdeen.
