Following on from the launch of Sri Lanka’s first Big Data Analytics MSc postgraduate degree programme delivered by Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) in collaboration with Robert Gordon University (RGU), it has been announced that a new MSc in Business Analytics is in the process of being validated.
With the growth of the IT industry in the South Asian region and in Sri Lanka, the need for postgraduate programmes is on the rise and the partnership will enable IIT and RGU to pioneer the Business Analytics offering in the region.
The partnership provides RGU’s School of Computing Science and Digital Media with valuable program validation experience in the Sri Lankan market with the opportunity to develop by expanding to further computing courses at IIT.
The MSc in Business Analytics, which is subject to final validation, will cover areas including data warehousing and management, business analytics and modelling, business intelligence tools and techniques, and is aimed at high level employees from IT management to chief technical officers.
Professor John Harper, deputy principal and chief academic officer at RGU said: “RGU welcomes the further development of its partnership with IIT through the introduction of this new MSc in Business Analytics.
“This demonstrates the effectiveness of this strategic relationship which was established last year with a view to meeting demand from the IT and business sectors within Sri Lanka for specialist courses in Big Data.”
CEO of IIT, Dr. Sampath Kannangara, added: “When we partnered with Robert Gordon University (RGU), it was done with the intention of working together with one of the dynamic, progressive and renowned Universities in the United Kingdom. It was no surprise that the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey, published in 2016, quoted RGU as being third equal in the UK with Oxford University for the quality of their facilities.
“Informatics Institute of Technology being the pioneer educational establishment to offer a British Degree in Sri Lanka, together with Robert Gordon University is proud to offer the MSc in Business Analytics in Sri Lanka. This is the second specialized Masters Degree that is being offered by IIT in partnership with RGU, the first being the MSc in Big Data Analytics.
“Introducing the MSc in Business Analytics to Sri Lanka is bound to change the landscape of how our corporate and government sectors will view, adopt and operate with Business Analytics.”
The MSc in Big Data Analytics, which was launched last year and is RGU’s first validated programme delivered entirely from outside Europe, aims to produce specialist data scientists with training in industry relevant data acquisition, storage, warehousing, analytics and visualization tools and techniques and a good understanding of the needs of industry.
The course prepares graduates in technical disciplines for a career in the design and implementation use of computer-analytics and visualisation solutions for industry.
