Robert Gordon University (RGU) is launching its new School of Creative and Cultural Business.
Under the university’s plan for a more streamlined academic structure, the Department of Communication, Marketing and Media and the Department of Information Management have merged and are now the School of Creative and Cultural Business. The title emphasises the strategic positioning of the School in combining creativity and commerce.
Industry experts, academics and students will gather at the launch, which is taking place on today (Wednesday) at 6pm in the atrium of the Aberdeen Business School building, to hear from a line-up of well-known creative and cultural sector leaders.
Damian Bates, Editor-in Chief at Aberdeen Journals and also Visiting Professor at RGU; Steve Harris, CEO at VisitAberdeenshire; Enda Logan, chief executive at Fifth Business as well as Visiting Professor at RGU and Edward Pollock, RGU’s Student President for Communication and Democracy, will all share their knowledge and experience of the industry.
Jo Royle, Head of The School of Creative and Cultural Business, said: “We are delighted to host the launch of the School of Creative and Culture Business.
“Guest speakers from RGU and industry will present their thoughts on the future development of the creative and cultural business sector and how we will continue to work to produce graduates who are prepared for the economic realities of working in those sectors.
“The School of Creative and Cultural Business is a dynamic multidisciplinary school with innovative academic staff covering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees.”
RGU Principal, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, said: “The university is currently implementing a streamlined School-based academic structure, which has allowed us to bring together staff now forming the School of Creative and Cultural Business.
“The title emphasises the strategic positioning of the School in combining creativity and commerce.
“At the heart of the restructuring plan will be RGU’s determination to provide teaching and research and advice that offers solutions to our key partners – our students, our friends in industry, and the public sector.”
The School teaches a variety of degrees in Communication and Marketing; Information Management and Librarianship; Events Management; Fashion Management; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Media, Journalism and PR. A vast number of them are accredited by professional bodies including CILIP, IDM, CDA and CIPR and its Journalism and PR degrees have recently been ranked as second in the UK by The Guardian (2017).
Its courses are developed in line with industry need, providing graduates with the in-depth knowledge and practical application skills required in today’s market.
