Aberdeenshire based Viewport3 is scaling up in 2025, with major developments across its team, premises and product line.
The company has welcomed a new team member, moved to a larger office and workshop space, and is entering the next phase of development for its innovative ZECO (Zero-Compromise) underwater camera system.
In May, Paul McMillan joined the team as Development Engineer. Paul previously supported the business as a subcontractor during ZECO’s initial development and brings deep experience in electronics, system integration and testing.
“We’re delighted to welcome Paul into the team full-time,” said Director Richard Drennan. “Having someone who already knows our ZECO platform and shares our vision will help accelerate our progress as we move into commercial manufacturing.”
To support its growth, Viewport3 has also moved into new premises, just across the car park from its previous base in the West Pitmillan Business Centre, Foveran, where the company has been based since 2020. The new space offers a dedicated workspace for all team members, along with a purpose-built workshop to house the company’s high-performance computing and offshore equipment. The move provides much needed room to accommodate the growing team and scale up technical operations.
“If you’ve ever visited our old office, you’ll know how welcomed the extra space is,” added Business Manager Lynn Park. “The new setup gives us the space to build, test and scale – and importantly, room for the team to collaborate and grow.”
At the core of this scale-up is the next phase of ZECO, Viewport3’s ROV-deployable camera system that enables high-fidelity underwater inspections. With successful field trials complete, the company is now refining ZECO’s design, building the first fleet, and preparing for commercial launch.
ZECO offers capabilities not available in current subsea imaging systems, helping operators reduce vessel time, improve digital asset documentation, and significantly lower the carbon footprint of inspection campaigns.
This phase of the project includes technical upgrades, extended field testing, fleet production, and development of internal systems to support scale. The company is also engaging with funding partners to bring the technology to a wider market.
With a growing team, expanded facilities and a market-ready product, 2025 is set to be an interesting year for Viewport3.
