A leading North-east cancer support charity has appealed for fundraising runners to take part in popular events throughout the year.

The charity, which provides free wellbeing and support services to anyone affected by cancer across the North-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland has charity spaces in a number of coming events including the BHGE Running Festival and Edinburgh Marathon Running Festival.

May kicks off with the BHGE Running Festival in Aberdeen on Sunday, May 5, with runners pounding the 10k course around the familiar streets and sights of Aberdeen. The fast, flat course makes it perfect for the beginner runner but also ideal for those more seasoned runners.

The month then comes to an end with the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. The course was voted the fastest marathon in the UK by Runners World and is the ideal course for those looking to tackle their first marathon or score that personal best!

The route takes in many of Edinburgh’s iconic landmarks including Greyfriars Bobby, The Mound and the Scottish National Gallery.

Steph McCann, CLAN Cancer Support’s fundraising team manager, said: “It’s always a great buzz to be involved in events like The BHGE Running Festival, watching so many people achieve their own goals by taking part and raising vital funds to support CLAN’s services.

“We’re lucky to have such a strong sporting calendar across Scotland that is packed with opportunities for individuals to take part in challenges from running marathons to cycling 500 miles or tackling the muddiest of challenging courses.

“The public’s support for CLAN has always been fantastic and we’re looking forward to another fun summer of individuals and companies pulling on their CLAN t-shirts and clocking up the miles for a very worthy cause.”

For further information on any of the events or if you would like to register an interest in taking part on behalf of CLAN, please contact its fundraising team on 01224 647000 or email: fundraising@clanhouse.org
