The Russell Anderson Foundation (RAF) has confirmed the appointment of experienced HR professional Kim Woolner as its permanent CEO.
Kim, who has served as interim CEO since the spring of last year, will continue shaping long-term strategy, driving sustainable growth and deepening the Foundation’s impact across Aberdeen City.
Speaking about her appointment, Kim said: “While my background has been predominantly in HR, I have held a number of leadership positions in organisations, including experience as Interim CEO for another local charity, Absafe. My focus at the Foundation will be on stability, clarity and structure for the future. These are challenging times for all in the third sector and it is vital we are positioned to deliver maximum impact.
“RAF is a real people-first organisation and that’s what drew me, initially partnering with them to enhance their HR practices, and understanding the work being done to support schools in Aberdeen City through wellbeing, inclusion and opportunity.”
Kim’s career has been grounded in purpose, driving culture change, supporting organisational growth and promoting excellence in governance and wellbeing. Alongside her professional work, she serves as a Board Director for VisitAberdeenshire, and Vice-Chair of the CIPD North Scotland & Islands Branch. She is also a certified Coach and Complementary Practitioner, involved in several local wellbeing initiatives and community groups.
RAF Chair, Jim Sutherland, added. “Having made a significant and positive impact in her time with us, we are delighted that Kim has agreed to take on the role permanently, during what is a critical time for charities everywhere. Her experience across a range of blue-chip organisations will continue to be invaluable and make her exceptionally well placed to guide RAF through its next chapter.”
Formed in 2012, the Russell Anderson Foundation began by delivering free football sessions to children in some of the most socially deprived areas of the city. Today, the work extends beyond football, empowering children to make better decisions and to give them a chance to reach their potential.
RAF now supports over 2000 children each week, across partner schools in the city and, although health and well-being and physical activity remain at the core, RAF also works to improve attainment and broaden opportunity. This includes practical cooking lessons, mentoring programmes, and employability opportunities to name just some of the programmes delivered.
