The Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) has appointed Mark Bevan as its new chief executive.
Mr Bevan, currently Director for Business in the Community Scotland, the Prince of Wales’ Responsible Business network, will join SCDI on May 22 2017 and replaces Ross Martin, who stood down earlier this year.
Before he joined Business in the Community in April 2015, Mark Bevan held senior executive roles and worked closely with the business community whilst at Keep Scotland Beautiful and Amnesty International. Earlier in his career, he was a director at Capability Scotland and he has been a non-executive director of Children in Scotland and The Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairment. In these roles he has worked closely with Government.
Brendan Dick, chair of SCDI, said: “Mark’s most recent experience of running a business membership organisation, along with his track record of significant policy work, made him a stand-out candidate for this crucial role. I’m very much looking forward to working with Mark, our members and the wider stakeholder community to create sustainable economic growth and prosperity for Scotland.”
Mark Bevan said: “Scotland - in common with the rest of the UK and indeed the global economy - faces many challenges in the next few years, including changing labour markets, digitalisation and low carbon driving an accelerating transformation of the economy. When you put all of that in the context of a fast-moving political environment, SCDI has a unique role to play in supporting and influencing Scotland’s position as a more competitive, inclusive and growing economy. I look forward to leading that work with our members and team throughout Scotland and beyond.”
