Leading accountancy firm Scholes CA has merged with Aberdeen based A9 Bower + Smith Chartered Accountants, further strengthening the Kirkwall headquartered company’s presence on the Scottish mainland and boosting its client base.

This latest expansion by Scholes CA follows its 2019 move into Edinburgh, with the incorporation of A9 Bower + Smith’s teams in Aberdeen city centre and Laurencekirk raising the company’s staff complement to 35.

Ivan Houston, director at Scholes CA, said: “We’re a firm that believes in doing the finest work for quality SMEs in the mid-market space, so we’re really delighted to merge with the excellent team at A9 Bower + Smith and are very much looking forward to working with them and all their clients.

“The merger ideally positions our firm to support a wealth of great businesses up and down the east coast, particularly in the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area, enhancing the work we’re already doing in and around Edinburgh. Given our strategic interests in certain sectors including agricultural, oil and gas and renewables, this is a sensible next step for our firm.”

Alan Duncan from A9 Bower + Smith added: “The team at A9 Bower + Smith is delighted to have merged with Scholes CA and we’re enjoying working alongside our new colleagues. The directors at Scholes CA share our values for client service and good proactive advice. The merger has given us the opportunity to reinvest in the future of the business and expand our areas of expertise which will benefit all our clients and staff.”
