Jackie Lockhart, Curl Aberdeen Chairperson and BBC Commentator is currently out in Switzerland representing Scotland at the World Senior Curling Championships after herself and team of Mairi Milne, Edith Hazard, Wendy Johnston and Katie Loudon won the Scottish Senior Ladies Championships earlier this year.
This year also saw Jackie celebrating 20 years since becoming World Curling Champion, the first Scottish Women’s team to win the prestigious title!
This is not Lockhart’s first time competing at the World Seniors with having two previous appearances at the event and each time finishing on the podium. Her first appearance at the World Senior level back in Karlstad in 2016 saw her and team winning Gold going through the event unbeaten. Her second appearance in 2017 saw the team winning the Bronze medal match against USA.
The team kicked off the 2022 event held in Geneva with a strong start beating the Canadian team 8-2 after seven ends. They continued their strong performance going through the round robin unbeaten and earning themselves a spot in the semi-final. After a close fought game against Switzerland in the semi’s an extra end saw the Swiss side just edge the win to advance to the Gold medal match. Although disappointment with not making the final, Jackie and team regrouped as they set to face Finland in the Bronze medal match.
The final was close with Finland scoring in the first two ends, the Scottish side quickly answered back to make it 3-2 after four ends. Consecutive scoring from the Scottish Ladies in the last three ends saw them securing a 6-4 win over the Finnish side. Seeing Scotland leaving the 2022 World Women’s Senior Curling Championships with a Bronze!
Congratulations to Jackie and Team Scotland on such a successful run at the event.
