Embracing its unwavering commitment to nurturing a thriving environment for school pupils living with asthma, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF) continues to provide essential assistance. Recently, an impactful asthma workshop was delivered at New Machar Primary School by a team comprising dedicated charity staff and Public Health postgraduate students on placement from the University of Aberdeen. The workshop successfully reached an impressive audience of 150 pupils, along with 14 teachers and Pupil Support Assistants.

Reflecting on the workshop's resounding success, Dr. Abdulrauf Waziri, the organisation’s esteemed Health Promotion Manager based in the Aberdeen office, expressed, "The asthma workshop exceeded all expectations. Pupils gained essential knowledge and effective techniques in managing asthma, while it was heartening to witness the presence of teachers who play a pivotal role in asthma management at school."

With an ardent commitment to fostering an asthma-friendly environment at New Machar School, AAF firmly believes that the knowledge acquired and the heightened awareness generated during the workshop will create a nurturing atmosphere where pupils with asthma can thrive and feel fully supported. To further enhance ongoing support, the asthma charity graciously provided the school with an asthma pack tailored specifically for these pupils.

Expanding on this initiative, Dr. Abdulrauf Waziri emphasized, "Considering the unexpectedly high number of pupils with asthma in attendance, the asthma pack, which also includes a simple guide on managing asthma attacks, will prove immensely beneficial. These additional resources, in conjunction with the techniques demonstrated during the workshop, will serve as invaluable tools for continuous support among the pupils, their peers, and the support staff."

Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to its cause, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation aims to extend its vital asthma workshops to various regions, including Aberdeen/Shire, Glasgow and Clyde, Edinburgh, Lothian, and the Scottish Borders. The charity extends profound gratitude to its dedicated team of staff and volunteers, whose tireless efforts have significantly improved health outcomes for children and young individuals living with asthma, while also equipping parents and teachers with the essential skills to support pupils in managing their condition.

Furthermore, the asthma charity extends heartfelt appreciation to its esteemed funders, sponsors, and partners, whose steadfast support has made these workshops possible. Special recognition is due to the NHS Grampian Charity for their generous grant contribution towards the workshop's delivery and to the Conundrum Charitable Trust for their invaluable grant supporting the printing of essential health information and additional asthma resources for schools.
