Aberdeen will host the 2017 Scottish Disability Sport Lawn Bowls Championships, run in partnership with registered charity Sport Aberdeen, this Saturday (September 2).
The Granite City will welcome some of Scotland’s leading players to the event which will take place at Westburn Park, the home of the Championships for over twenty years.
Four players from the Scottish Disability Sport National Squad, which is currently preparing for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, will be competing against over 70 bowlers from across three main classifications of disability sport.
Scottish Disability Sport today thanked Sport Aberdeen for their continued support and are very grateful to all the local officials and markers for their assistance with the preparations of the Championships.
Jo Bell, Sport Aberdeen director for Sport and Active Lifestyles said:
“Supporting local events that open up sport and competitive opportunities to people of all abilities, within a community setting, is hugely important.
“Sport Aberdeen strives to inspire more people to participate in physical activity and by working with partners we can continue to present these opportunities. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Scottish Disability Sport in the future to bring these kinds of tournaments to the Granite City.”
Gavin Macleod, Scottish Disability Sport CEO, added:
“Events like this mean the disability sport calendar is well-represented on a truly national basis. It is only though the positive partnerships fostered between Scottish Disability Sport, Sport Aberdeen, local clubs and the volunteer sector that these events and experiences for our players become possible.
“We are delighted to welcome the Depute Lord Provost of Aberdeen Alan Donnnelly to present the trophies on the day and look forward to another successful event which attracts a wide range of people each year.”
