The Scottish Government’s new Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan has been welcomed as a clear indication of the desire to remove barriers to Solar PV deployment in Scotland and increase our sector’s contribution to Scotland’s Net Zero Goals.
Emtec Energy, as active members of Solar Energy UK and Solar Energy Scotland, has campaigned for several years for the Scottish Government to remove barriers such as Permitted Development Rights and Business Rates, and to take seriously issues affecting the sector such as the availability of properly qualified resource. By setting a clearly defined target for Solar PV deployment in Scotland the government will be actively supporting decarbonisation, the growth of the Scottish Solar sector and an increase in skilled employment across the country.
It appears that the value of Solar has finally been accepted in Holyrood as one of the most important tools in the fight against climate change, and Emtec look forward to the Scottish Government setting a binding target on deployment figures, PDR Levels and employment targets. All of these are vital to the achievement of our net zero targets and Emtec Energy will continue to campaign alongside the wider Solar Industry to ensure these vital legislation changes are made.
With the huge surge in demand for Solar PV, created in part by the ongoing energy crisis, it is clear that these changes are needed now more than ever to ensure the process is as streamlined as possible. Not only will this provide an opportunity for businesses to save significantly on their energy bills, but it will also bring forth thousands of new job opportunities and strengthen a highly successful Scottish Business sector.
Emtec Energy is glad to see Scotland’s Government acknowledge the importance of Solar PV in reaching Net Zero and is proud to be working with some of Scotland’s leading businesses to make this a reality.
